VISTA LIBRARY "FOOD FOR THOUGHT" YOGA/LUNCH PROGRAM ENTERS SECOND YEAR
North County Times - December 2007 Midday Events Promote Active Lifestyles, Nutrition and Lifelong Learning
The Vista Branch of the San Diego County Library, 700 Eucalyptus Ave, will launch year two of its award-winning Food for Thought series on Thursday, January 3, at 11 a.m. The sessions, scheduled for the first and third Thursday of each month, include a gentle yoga session, followed by a gourmet boxed lunch and social hour. The program is a partnership of the San Diego County Library, the County’s Aging & Independence Services and the City of Vista Senior Services.
The goal of the unique and innovative program is to ensure that older adults receive proper nutrition, stay active, avoid isolation and take advantage of the wealth of information services at the public library. Food for Thought recently won an N4A award from the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging. The yoga sessions are taught by Sherry Zak Morris, co-owner of Yoga Vista Studio. Zak Morris’ gentle yoga classes are planned for adults of all ages, with chairs available for seated stretches and balance. "Food for thought is a program whose time has come,” said José Aponte, San Diego County Library Director, with community partners marshalling resources and citizens to build services that inform, inspire and entertain, while concurrently weaving a tapestry that crafts a stronger, safer, healthier and more prosperous San Diego County for all of our residents." The activity portion is free of charge. A $3 donation is suggested for the lunch for those 60 and over and a donation of $5 is suggested for others. Reservations are required for lunch: (760) 726-1340 x 1531.
